I didn't have a Sunday run on my PRR Training last week because I was headed up to the mountains. I was trying to decide between a bunch of mountain to kick off an ambitious summer of climbing 14ers. Ambitious for me, means trying for somewhere between 6-10 14ers. A friend who has 4WD (which is needed to get to some of the mountain trail heads) backed out late last week, so my plans changed and I just went back to one I knew, La Plata Peak.
Here's my trip report for anyone interested.

Spring sports recap - part 1

Men's tennis won the SEC Championship for the 1,000 time but got upset (they were the 2 seed) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament which was in Athens again this year.
The women also lost in the quarterfinals in Athens.
Gym Dogs are continuing to not be in the national title picture post Suzanne Yoculan and Jay Clark (HC) resigned after 3 substandard seasons.
The women's golf team didn't make it to the NCAA Championships, losing in a regional.
Men's golf did qualify out of their regional but are not a dominate team like we've had in the past. I don't expect much from them in the championship.
Baseball is currently playing in the SEC tourney (losing game 1) but should go to a regional.
Softball won their regional, heading to the Super Regional playing the Lady Vols in Knoxville.

ESPN post spring SEC rankings

Can't really argue with any of these rankings. Our talent says we should be that high but our history says otherwise. Of course with that logic, SC shouldn't ever be ranked ahead of us. Even though we have the better schedule, we just can't lose the SC game this season. I really can't imagine losing to them 3 years in a row and not sure we'll be able to get ahead of them if we drop that game.
Looking back on the spring, it appears we came out with no "major" injuries but I'm still very disappointed with the suspensions. It's hard to understand how we seem to continually have these issues in what seems like way more frequency and consistency than other teams. Oh well, can't lose too much sleep worrying about 19 year olds. 99 days until college football kicks off (I think).

I'm proposing a new tradition that will take place every year on the first day of summer, which for 2012, is Wednesday, June 20th.
It only has 2 requirements:
So I suggest we start a worldwide movement to get as many people as possible to begin our summer's with a new tradition that just makes since.

Braves in CO

SimpleMan98
I have another prediction for you. When I left Tampa, FL last summer before the football season, I guaranteed that the Dawgs would end up in the Outback Bowl. I did not however predict the coaching collapse that occurred at the end of the game. Yes, I'm still bitter.
On to my latest prediction; the Braves are in town this weekend for the only 3 games they play in CO this season and I have tickets for tonight and Sunday's games. I predict that the Braves will win Saturday's game (which I'm missing because of stupid company function) and lose the 2 games that I'll actually be at.
It's on record now, come on guys, prove me wrong. #GOBRAVES

**Monday Morning Update**
Grab the brooms cause the #BRAVES just swept the Rockies and I did go to the first and last games of the series. Beachy was dealing again, could have easily gotten through without any earned runs but gave up a couple cheap ones in his last inning of work.

Dr. Adams is stepping down today and I doubt you'll find too many alumni that are upset by this. He's had an interesting presidency at UGA to say the least. IMO, he got too involved with athletics too many times. I definitely want a president that values athletics but I want that to mostly be behind the scenes. I don't need our president to become the story in regards to the athletic department.
This does bring me back though, I remember being there when Dr. Knapp stepped down and The Red and Black running many many articles breaking down potential candidates and then the finalist. If memory serves, Dr. Adams wasn't the "favorite" at the end but obviously ended up getting the job. I could be wrong but it doesn't appear that our academic standards have dramatically changed either way since he took office. Yes, SAT and GPA averages for admittance have gone up but that seems to have a lot to do with HOPE and more kids going to college every year.
Well good luck to Dr. Adams and lets hope our next pres takes all areas of our University to even higher levels.
